M. Sc. in Actuarial Mathematics
Avinash Maniram is a senior group benefits consultant with over 20 years of experience in the benefits industry. He consults to boards of trustees and benefit committees of multi‑employer and negotiated cost health and welfare plans. Within this context, he provides strategic consulting advice on complex plan design and governance issues. In order to analyze and demonstrate the impact of design alternatives, he has developed and led the development of a number of unique actuarial tools and models.
Avinash has worked with PBI since its inception. Prior to PBI’s formation, Avinash worked for 10 years with a large multinational human resources consulting firm where he specialized in consulting to health and welfare trusts. Avinash began his career in the insurance industry working in the corporate actuarial area of a mid-sized carrier where he developed actuarial models for statutory reporting and pricing.
Avinash is a frequent speaker on health and wellness topics at educational seminars and industry conferences. Through his work with clients on member education issues, he has also developed and made numerous presentations to unionized groups covering technical actuarial and benefits issues. Avinash has written several articles on group benefits and public policy issues and has been published and quoted in both the industry and mainstream media.
Avinash has a Master’s degree in Actuarial Mathematics from the University of Manitoba where he also obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours), with a major in Actuarial and Management Sciences. He has also served on the faculty of the Actuarial Sciences department at Simon Fraser University. Avinash is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).
