PBI Wellness Summit: Peace of Mind

Stress can be found at the root of many issues for workers, family members, unions, and employers. The 2nd annual PBI Wellness Summit will focus on the many ways one can seek and gain peace of mind. It will explore dimensions of wellness beyond the physical one, with presentations that will cover the emotional, mental, financial, and social aspects. This year, the Summit will include workshops in the afternoon.
The PBI Wellness Summit was designed with the interests and needs of multi-employer plan trustees in mind. Plan administrators, union representatives, and HR professionals might also benefit from attending.

Locating Men’s Health. Speaker: Dr. John L. Oliffe.
The presentation provides an overview of men’s health with a focus on common physical and mental health issues. Details about men’s depression and suicidality, and prostate cancer, along with social determinants of health including life transitions such as retirement are discussed. An array of men’s workplace, community-based and e-health programs are also highlighted as offering important resources to advance the health of men and their families.
The Magic Numbers That Create Financial Freedom. Speaker: Jay Seabrook.
From a financial perspective, Enriched Academy studies thousands of Canadians from all walks of life and from all income levels. They analyze what sets apart those that achieve their financial goals/dreams and those that do not. Technology and Mental Wellness; Pros, Cons and Future. Leader: Merlyn Horton.
This workshop will include:
A look at the positive uses of technology in the mental health fields with ideas for using apps and online sites to increase your organization’s therapeutic reach, promote mental health through cognitive behaviour therapy, provide online outreach, educational materials, peer support and therapeutic artificial intelligence.
An overview of the areas of concern with technology negatively impacting mental wellness including the economic forces behind the addictive natures of online technologies, the rapid uptake in use of online technologies – particularly mobile technologies by children/teens/adults, behavioural addictions like excessive screen time, gaming and online pornography and how the speed of change and the rapid shifts in social organizing is leaving some groups disenfranchised and isolated/lonely.
A look at the future of online technologies and mental wellness including artificial intelligence and its future role in physical and psychological therapy, mental health and substance misuse assessment and robot companion animals.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. John L. Oliffe, founder and lead of the Men’s Health Program at UBC.
Dr. Oliffe is a Professor at the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia. Founder and lead investigator of the Men’s Health Research program, his work focuses on masculinities as it influences men’s health behaviors and illness management, and its impact on partners, families and quality of life. His research provides key insights to guide clinicians and researchers advance men’s health promotion practices. Dr. Oliffe has authored over 165 publications

Randeep St. Jacques is a Certified KonMari Consultant. Being an avid reader led her to Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. She found joy in implementing the KonMari methodology in her home, and this led to ClutterLess Living. The organizing process was invigorating and allowed her to make personal life decisions with fewer obstacles in the way. Her home is surrounded with objects that have purpose or elicit happiness, all assigned a designated spot to make tidying up easy. She is a graduate of the University of Alberta Bachelor of Arts program and continues to further her education with marketing, business, design, and organization courses to broaden her knowledge.
