Senior Actuarial Analyst

Location: Burlington, Ontario

PBI Actuarial Consultants Ltd. is currently seeking a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our pension consulting team.

Tasks and responsibilities

To fulfill this role, the individual should have the following experience:

  • Primarily responsible for the accuracy of pension plan actuarial valuations
  • Includes oversight and checking work of junior analysts
  • Review, program and develop actuarial liabilities using actuarial principles
  • Competent with ProVal actuarial software, including running and checking test cases
  • Conduct pension plan design analysis, financial modelling, administrative analysis, and other special projects
  • Draft reports, presentations, and other various internal and client documents
  • Interpret and apply pension plan texts, administrative policies, and related legislation
  • Review pension benefit calculations or any other document pertaining to pension plan administration
  • Assist in asset-liability studies
  • Seek solutions to client-related issues related to retirement, benefits, or investments
  • Mentor, train, and oversee more junior pension analysts
  • Manage projects and supervise client teams according to planned budgets and schedules
  • Work independently with the client actuarial and investment teams to service client pension needs
  • Attend client meetings providing value-added actuarial advice
  • Assist on any pension-related special projects


  • University degree in actuarial science
  • Completion of ACIA designation with demonstrated progress towards FCIA designation
  • 5 to 10 years of industry experience
  • Proficient in computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in ProVal actuarial software

Terms and conditions of employment

  • Permanent position
  • 40-hour weekly schedule
  • Mix of work-at-home and in-office depending on nature of work
  • Salary dependent on experience
  • Enrolment in extended health benefits and company pension plan
  • Enrolment in PBI’s actuarial exam program which covers exam and study material costs as well as provides study time support
  • Starting date: Immediate
